Cryolite, or natural sodium aluminium fluoride, is an interesting element because it provides a safe source of sodium in its natural, non-sintered form.
SODIUM CRYOLITE
Ref : CRYOLIT
Cryolite, or natural sodium aluminium fluoride, is an interesting element because it provides a safe source of sodium in its natural, non-sintered form.
It is used whenever sodium and alumina are required together in the same glaze.
It provides the characteristic colour reaction to sodium or highly alkaline fluxes.
Cryolite: Sodium Hexafluoroaluminate or Sodium Fluo-Aluminate (Molecular Formula AlF6Na3, contains 32.9% Na, 12.8% Al, 54.3% F) may also contain traces of Fe and Ca.
Main deposits : Cryolite of the Ivitgut Complex (Greenland)
Mineral associated with large pegmatite deposits.
