Shellac
Shellac is a gum-resin or resin, secreted by cochineal beetles.
It is used for the manufacture of varnishes for cabinet makers or protective varnish for paint.
It dissolves in alcohol.
White shellac is a purified animal gum resin obtained from the resinous secretion of the female Laccifer or Coccus Lacca insect (family Coccidae) on various plant species such as Combretum Boveti.
Dewaxing is carried out by treatment with a hot soda ash solution, followed by filtration and precipitation by acidulation of the solution.
