Description

CALCIUM CARBONATE

Ref : CARCHA

Ceramic raw material that can be obtained in natural or precipitated form, the latter being of a much finer grain quality.

Its thermal decomposition, leaving the calcium oxide free, takes place at around 900°C.

It is used as a source of calcium in the manufacture of glazes; under reducing conditions, it helps to develop the colour of Celadon type glazes.

An excess of this component gives rise to matt or rough surfaces, especially in low melting point glazes.

Used in small quantities as a flux in glazes.

Gives a matt appearance above 25%.
