Extra fine flour type
Chamotte, or crushed shard, is a raw clay fired at a temperature of 1300 - 1400 °C, crushed and sieved (to control the grain size obtained).
Description
Refractory chamottes
Chamottes cooked in rotary ovens at 1300°C, free of cristobalite.
Grain size 0-02 , 0-05, 0-1,5 (and 0-2mm on order).
As chamotte is a prefired material, it will not shrink, expand or degrade when exposed to high temperatures. Chamotte is used as an aggregate in the composition of clays to give it structure or to make a refractory mortar, both in industry and construction (fireplace) or in the garden (bread oven, barbecue, pizza oven, etc.).
With the same density as concrete, chamotte can be used as it is with refractory cement and water and/or river sand to make a refractory mortar or concrete that can be used for pointing, making, covering and even pouring.
